Beer Kitchen makes my "Best of Burgers" list without question but I have been seriously slacking on their happy hour! Have I been missing out or what?! Located in the heart of Kansas City's first beloved entertainment district, open late, and with an inspired but approachable bar-food driven menu Beer Kitchen has remained one of my top burger-n-beer spots for a few years.
This time around I passed up the normal on menu burgers, The Brickhouse is my personal number one, and opted for the $5 pair of sliders. They came done up with crisp crunchy slightly sweet homemade pickles and I decided to top them off with the in house whiskey ketchup. I didn't miss the creative menu meat masterpieces one bit, at least this time around. Instead, the simple dressed sliders let Beer Kitchen's blend of juicy ground chuck shine and were a perfect snack alongside $3 gin and tonic wells. The service at the bar was excellent, my bartender was chatty, friendly and seemed to know some hidden gems in the Kansas City food scene (I let him in on some of my favorites too).
All in all, Beer Kitchen has remained relevant and reliable in it's corner home in Westport, where changes are threatening some of the most beloved local hangouts. I really hope Beer Kitchen is immune to the "in with the new, out with the old" mantra Westport is choosing to adopt because its a star of the neighborhood and an underrated hero of the local food scene. -

When you're in the Westport area, you cannot go wrong at the beer kitchen.
Anyone that you would want to bring to the beer kitchen can easily find something on the menu to try.
I'm a beer and burger guy, so I might be biased toward this place, but they do the food well. The fries aren't overly seasoned, and you will find appetizers you don't normally find at many places, ie the potato/zucchini latkes - which I HIGHLY recommend to start with
The one thing I might caution is the brunch. I would rate the brunch as 2.5 but I'm keeping my review based solely on their regular menu. -

Our first visit to this restaurant surpassed our expectations! I don't like beer so for some reason I associated the food with being heavy and "bar food". However, the reviews convinced me to give it a try. And I'm so glad I did because I was definitely wrong about the "bar food"! The dishes were comforting yet refined and plated very nicely. The service was great as well. Our server accommodated my request to switch tables after seeing one that had better light for pictures. Only negative is parking can be a bit difficult in Westport. This is what we ordered:
{Field Mix Salad} - not a boring salad at all; fresh and tasty
{Short Rib Grilled Cheese} - delicious combo; served w/ sweet potato fries on the side
{Creekstone Short Rib} - served over cheddar grits; delicious! -

I wanted to like to this place more but It was ok ! Service wasn't very good , not very attentive and the food was just ok , I was in shock that our fries were $8 a piece .. my husband said his Ruben was just plain tasting and wasn't worth the price ! I had the prime beef weck , it was ok ..

Best service around, great selection of rotating taps, knowledgeable staff, and great happy hour specials! We started off with the cheesy ancho corn dip, the chipotle white cheddar was smoky, and rich and the salsa verde was the right touch to cut through the richness. We enjoyed the fish and chips ( the Belgian fry is the best), the short rib grilled cheese, build your own mac & cheese! This is a must for foodies and craft beer enthusiasts!
